Storm Keeps 11 Units Busy
By Vice President Debra Finocchiaro
April 30, 2020

The storms which brought high winds and drenching rains into the Nor-Del kept the volunteers and EMS staff busy with over (20) dispatched calls for the day. The calls included but were not limited to fire alarms, wires / trees down, and one call in particular happened to be dispatched to the home of one of our own.

The initial dispatch was a tree into a house with a subject trapped; crews realized the address was the parent's home of our Auxiliary President Chris Mellinger. Rescue 11(Deputy G. Day) with a full crew along with B-11 and 11-8 (Chief Finocchiaro) responded immediately. Crews immediately went to work securing the power, investigating structural damage, while the ambulance crew assessed (1) patient.

In addition to the members who responded to the initial dispatch, James Nichols and Gary Rauso both members of Brandywine Hundred Fire Company graciously assisted the family with this clean-up well after the call was cleared. We are all thankful that President Mellinger's family did not sustain any serious injuries during this unfortunate event.
