Early Morning Call
By Vice President Debra Finocchiaro
October 21, 2019
This morning just after 04:00 hrs, Station 11 along with 13, 22 and 25 were dispatched to residential structure fire with reports of smoke in the basement. 11-8 (Chief Finocchiaro) responded followed by Engine 11-3 and 11-5. Smoke conditions were reported inside the structure and the origin was immediately determined to be the fireplace which was compromised causing a floor joist below to burn. Crews from 11-3 & 11-5 deployed their booster lines to hit the hot-spots while crews began overhaul of the fireplace floor and surrounding areas. USAR 13 was dispatched to assist with shoring up the basement floor joist.
The scene was placed under control within 30 minutes and the residents were able to re-occupy the home shortly thereafter.
Working smoke detectors and the quick arrival of apparatus proved to be a positive outcome for this incident.
Thanks to all of the personnel who responded to this early morning alarm; Stations 11,13, 22, 25, 17, 14 and 12.
