9 Emergencies on January 21st

Not only did January 21st bring winter weather to the Brandywine Hundred Fire Company response area, but also 9 emergencies! The 9 emergencies that station 11 responded to included a house fire, three auto accidents and a fatal pedestrian struck.

Pedestrian struck:

At 08:25hrs Station 11, New Castle County Medics, Ambulances 13 & 25 were all alerted to a pedestrian struck in the area of 201 Philadelphia Pike. While enroute units were advised by dispatch that Wilmington Police were onscene advising one subject was unresponsive. Deputy 11 arrived reporting one trauma arrest and another trauma alert. Rescue 11 arrived and assisted EMS units with patient care. One patient was pronounced onscene while B-13 and C-25 transported patients to the trauma center.

Motor Vehicle Accident:

Stations 11 & 13 were dispatched to Interstate 495 South in the area of Edgemoor Road at 08:42hrs for the report of a motor vehicle accident. Ambulance A-11 along with Engine 11-3 were both enroute within one minute of dispatch! Ambulance A-11, 11-3, and Rescue 13 arrived and began assessing the situation and determined the need for one additional ambulance.  Ambulance B-11 made the response with a volunteer crew while A-11 transported the first patient to the ER. B-11 arrived and transported one patient to the trauma center. 11-3 placed the incident under control at 09:18hrs.


Residential fire (outside fire exposure to house):

At 12:09 Station 11, Engine and Rescue 13, Engine and Ladder 25 were alerted to the 600 Block of Melrose ave for a report of a residential fire. While enroute units were advised by dispatch that they were receiving several calls and it was unknown what exactly was on fire. Shortly after dispatch Deputy 11 went on location with a report of an outside fire with exposure to the house. Engine 11-3 arrived within four minutes of dispatch and extinguished the fire. Tower 11 arrived and performed ventilation. Deputy 11 placed the incident under control holding 11-3 and the tower. Station 11 units where in quarters at 12:23.
