Today, we changed our clocks as we spring forward. The Brandywine Hundred Fire Co. is encouraging the community to take the time to check and test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are in good working order.
Here are some helpful tips:
Test your detectors at least once a month using the test button on the device. Replace detector if it does not properly respond when tested.
Recommend replacing your detector batteries twice a year.
Check the expiration date on the detectors, replace immediately if detector is expired.
If detector "chirps" this is an indication that the battery may need to be replaced, replace the battery immediately. If replacing the battery does not correct the "chirp" replace the detector with a new one.
Follow the manufacturer's specification for installation, testing and maintenance.
Make sure that everyone in the home understands the sound of the detector and knows how to respond.
